RACETECH’S ‘FUTURE-PROOF’ INSTALLATION DELIVERS FOR DONCASTER

Doncaster Racecourse’s new custom-built public address and audio visual communications system was yesterday heralded a great success by the managing executive of the South Yorkshire venue.

The system was designed by RaceTech, the innovative racecourse services provider, and took more than two years to develop.

Among the unique features created specifically for Doncaster is a cutting-edge, digital, audio-visual control system, which facilitates the delivery of targeted messaging and advertising to different areas of the course, on twelve different channels.

For the first time, the racecourse management have the capability to direct a wide variety of services and products to individual groups of racecourse visitors, making ‘demography-specific’ marketing a viable goal.

In all, 300 loudspeakers and television points carry an incredible 10,000 watts of power. More than twenty separate broadcast and audio visual engineers have been a part of the installation process, and have used over 300 kilometres of cabling across the new grandstand and old weighing room, now a champagne bar.

Installed during the closure of the course while it underwent a £32 million facelift, the facility was successfully used for the first time at the four-day St. Leger meeting and was again given a searching task during this weekend’s Racing Post Trophy card; again passing every test with flying colours.

Said Doncaster’s Managing Director, Adam Waterworth, "A great deal of thought and care went into the development of the system, and I am delighted to say that it has met every requirement. "The sound quality of the public address in all areas of the course was particularly good, and RaceTech are to be congratulated for their ingenuity and expertise.

"Meeting the needs of the modern racegoer is quite a challenge. Customer expectations of sports and leisure facilities are growing constantly.

"We also have to look ahead in anticipation of new technologies and ensure that our investment is protected by installing future-proof systems".

Commented Mick Both, RaceTech's Director of Engineering and Technical Operations, "It was mammoth undertaking and we are very proud of the finished product.

“Well before installation, experts were examining the acoustics of the site, both internally and externally. It was important that the layout and topology of the existing course guide the development of the project.

"The spec. also called for bespoke, digitally controlled audio visual systems to the Stewards' and Judge's Room, Press Room, Private Boxes and main grandstand entrance. We also helped to totally refit was the old weighing room.

"We are particularly pleased with the clarity of the public address. The control system features three digital signal processors which help ensure that clarity in the worst of conditions"
